Image upscaling for Adobe Stock: a contributor’s guide

Looking for a free image upscaler for Adobe Stock? Start with the submission rules, not a bigger pixel count. Pixlift AI helps you compare enlargement results, but Adobe’s photo-editing guidance advises against enlarging files for submission.

Check whether enlargement is appropriate

Adobe recommends reviewing photos at 100% magnification and making restrained edits. Its editing guide specifically discourages enlargement. An image that is too small or visibly soft may need a better original rather than a larger export.

For photo uploads, Adobe’s published contributor guidelines specify JPEG and a minimum resolution of 4 megapixels. Meeting a dimensional requirement is only one check: it does not mean an enlarged image meets quality, rights or content requirements.

Understand scale factors before exporting

A 2x scale doubles width and height, producing four times as many pixels. A 4x scale produces sixteen times as many pixels. For example, a 1000 × 1000 image becomes 2000 × 2000 at 2x and 4000 × 4000 at 4x.

These dimensions describe file size, not recovered photographic information. AI can invent textures or soften fine detail. Avoid choosing 8x or 16x solely to increase the megapixel count.

Inspect the details that buyers will notice

Compare the original and enlarged version at 100%. Look for halos along edges, repeating foliage, plastic-looking skin, distorted lettering and invented patterns. Review hands, faces and product geometry individually rather than trusting a small thumbnail.

For submission, keep the strongest compliant source and review Adobe’s current guidance on color profiles, compression, releases and trademarks. Pixlift AI does not submit images to Adobe Stock or certify an export as acceptable.

Keep generative AI and licensing checks separate

If your source was created with generative AI, follow Adobe’s current labeling and content rules. Upscaling does not change how the source was created or establish ownership of the content.

The Pixlift app is open source, but model checkpoints and source images can have separate license conditions. Check the model and image rights before commercial use. Pixlift AI is independent of Adobe and is not endorsed by Adobe Stock.

Try a small comparison before processing a batch

Sign in to the free Pixlift AI web app, connect your own compatible GPU runtime, and test one image. Choose a model, scale and output format, then compare the result before committing a whole collection.

Finished images save individually to Projects while inference continues. If you do process a batch, keep the originals and review every result; a successful upscale is not a marketplace approval.
